Historically and scientifically comprehensive, the story centers on a government virologist, Don Francis (Modine), who almost single-handedly works on solving the mystery that was (is) HIV. The film indicts nearly everyone involved; and while powerful and engrossing, it suffers in depicting gay characters and in the perception that straight men and women came to the rescue of the gay community. An important, sobering drama.
