SYNOPSIS

A rediscovered gay "classic", Angel was a commercial and critical hit in Greece, surprising in that it was the first Greek film to deal with homosexuality. The drama is a harrowing, tragic account of a shy young man from a dysfunctional family (dad's an alcoholic; mom's a whore) who thinks he's found love after meeting a macho sailor. Their relationship soon becomes abusive, with the handsome Angel forced to become a transvestite prostitute in Athens. His helplessness and humiliation soon end in inevitable violence. A very negative portrayal of homosexulity that ends in tragedy. (Greek with English subtitles)
